Futility of Search...

The disciple looked at the Master. He looked so calm and peaceful, and the disciple was agitated, restless, anxious, concerned and confused. He asked the Master, “What do you know, that I don’t know,” and the Master said, “I know nothing.” The disciple said, “You must have understood something that I didn’t.” The Master said, “I have understood that there is nothing to understand.” The disciple persisted and said, “But I see that you have reached.” The Master said, “Yes I have reached where I was.” The disciple said, “I can see you have become extraordinary.” The Master said, “No, I have become very ordinary. I only accepted myself the way I am.”
The disciple was frustrated and said, “Master, don’t speak in riddles. Just tell me what I should do?” The Master said, “You have to do nothing, just be. Just allow life to flow, don’t interfere. Rest in your beingness.” But the disciple was lost, more frustrated. He was mind oriented, he wanted activity ant the Master said there is nothing to do, just rest.
Finally out of compassion, the Master said - watch your breath, watch the rising and falling of your stomach, focus on your third eye, on the bottom of your spine, chant your mantras etc. all mindless and simple activities. He knew all these activities were useless, but he knew that you have to give a tree to a monkey, so that the monkey goes up and down, till he becomes tired and then rests.
